An image has two separate sizes and people call both of them “size”. The first is its dimensions: 4000 × 3000 pixels, say. The second is its file size: 3.2 MB. If an email attachment is hitting a 10 MB limit, the problem is the file size; if a profile photo looks squashed, the problem is the dimensions.
This tool does both and lets you control them separately. Reducing the dimensions is usually the most effective move: taking a 4000-pixel-wide photo down to 1600 cuts the file by roughly 80% on its own, and nothing is visibly lost — no screen was showing it at 4000 pixels anyway.

If you do not see AVIF in the list, here is why: browsers can open AVIF but most cannot yet save it. Rather than claiming otherwise and handing you a different format under an .avif name, this tool tests what your browser can genuinely produce and lists only that.
